Limited-Edition Jaguar F-Pace SVR Celebrates 1988 Le Mans Win

Jaguar celebrates 34 years since it won the 24 Hours at Le Mans in 1988 with a special-edition F-Pace SUV called the Edition 1988.

The F-Pace SVR is the SVR version. It’s powered by a supercharged V8 engine of 550 horsepower. The new Edition 1988 model, which is identical to the SVR I drove in 2021, accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. It has a maximum speed of 178 miles.

The Jaguar racers of 1988 are harking back to their famous purple, white, and gold color scheme with Silk Cut advertisement. The F-Pace SVR Edition 1988 features unique midnight amethyst’ paint, champagne-gold forged, 22-inch alloy wheels, and’sunset golden’ accents.

This SVR version comes from Jaguar Land Rover’s same department that produced the Jaguar F-Type Heritage 60 Edition, and the Land Rover Defender V8 Bond Edition.

Jaguar claims it will produce 394 copies of the F-Pace Edition 1988. This is one for each lap completed by the XJR-9 that was driven to victory at Le Mans by Jan Lammers and Johnny Dumfries. Two of the five Jaguar cars entered were retired, while the rest finished first, fourth, and sixteenth. The 3,313 mile distance covered by the winning car was 3.313 miles

Glass black details to the door mirror caps and brake calipers, wheel centers caps, and letter R of the SVR badging contrast with the sunset gold badging, as well as other details, are added to the car’s interior. The interior includes open-pore carbon fibre finishers, ebony and satin detailing in sunset gold across the dashboard, steering wheels, gear shift paddles, and seats.

It will be unveiled at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, 8-12 June. Then it will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, 23-26 June. It costs $111,150 in America and PS101,550 for the UK.

Richard Woolley is the creative director for Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations. He said that “The Midnight Amethyst Gloss’ paintwork looks black until its amethyt undertones are exposed in bright sunlight, emphasizing Jaguar’s dynamic exterior.” We tested more than 40 color variations in order to achieve the dramatic Ultra Metallic Gloss finish.
