Plugable’s newest docking station can drive four Hi-Res screens at 60Hz

Plugable is a peripherals brand I have featured a lot before. Plugable makes a variety of docks and hubs that allow users to expand their desktop or laptop computers so they can run more screens or have greater connectivity via additional ports.

Plugable’s latest docking station is the UD-3900C4 Quad HDMI USB-C. The docking station can charge up to four displays using DisplayLink technology or Multi-Stream Transport (MST), and it offers up to 100W of power.

The new docking station was designed with power users in the mind. It is ideal for cutting down on clutter at your desk and adding external displays. The UD-3900C4 is capable of extending a laptop’s screen to support up to four additional displays. This transforms a basic setup into a command center. DisplayLink technology is used to drive the first two screens, and Multi-Stream Transport through DisplayPort Alt Mode (MST) for the third and fourth displays.

Mac users should be aware that Macs do not support MST. The docking station will display the same mirror screen on the third and fourth outputs. The UD-3900C4 supports 1080p resolution at 60Hz.

The UD-3900C4 can also run four additional monitors. It supports 100W charging (96W certified) on all supported USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 Thunderbolt 4 systems. A selection of ports are available, including one USB-C with data charging and 20W charging for older peripherals. There are also four additional USB 3.0 ports to connect legacy peripherals. These ports offer data transfer speeds up to 5Gbps and allow for plugging in and powering up. An SD 4.0 card reader, Ethernet port, and a 3,5mm audio-out and 3.5mm sound-in jack are other ports.

The UD-3900C4 supports USB4, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C systems supporting Multi-Stream Transport (MST). DisplayPort Alt Mode is supported by the UD-3900C4. The UD-3900C4 can only be used with Windows 10 or later, and four 1080p displays running at 60Hz. The UD-3900C4 is compatible with macOS 10+ and can drive three 1080p displays at 60Hz. This includes first-generation M1 Macs. DisplayPort MST isn’t supported by macOS. This means that there are only 3 extended displays and the fourth display can be mirrored.

Prices & Availability: Now available at, and Newegg as well as Walmart and eBay for $349, the Plugable UD-3900C4 docking station.
